[ I N T E N T I O N ]
Her name is Intentionality.
She sets alarms and builds in 1 snooze, quiet time + coffee, getting dressed, and getting to work on time without rushing. She is never late, but if something comes up, contacts to give warning. She puts down her phone when interacting with loved ones and gives full attention. She’s a listener, a laugher, and a mourner with the mourning. On rough days with big emotions, she feels them in safe spaces… sometimes with trusted people, sometimes alone. She doesn’t engage in conflict in the heat of anger, but gives breath and space for the best outcome in hopes of reconciliation and healing. She loves deeply and aims to speak the love languages of others. She has dreams and aspirations and moves toward them daily in various capacities—a sentence here, a sentence there; thoughts jotted down; notes written on the nearest napkin; 60 minutes to free-write; a spontaneous weekend devoted to a goal. She reads books that she enjoys and books that teach her unexpecteds. She goes for walks and prays in the car and sings at the top of her lungs. She’s careful about what she watches and listens to because she knows how it affects her. She’s self aware, so when she feels off she leans in and treats herself accordingly… sometimes the prescription is a doctor, sometimes a therapist, sometimes a journal, but always Jesus. She showers before bed because she knows it helps her sleep. She puts her phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’ but saves favorites for clear contact in emergencies. She isn’t perfect, but everything she says and does is on purpose. Her life is lived with intention.
“If intention were a person, what would their life look like?” Her: Intentionality. Writing has been a space I’ve struggled intentionality. But as I thought about her, I also realized there is more grace than I give myself… like building a book a sentence or a paragraph at a time, rather than trying to find success in completing a chapter a day when that’s not realistic for me. So, whatever you read of our friend Intentionality, let her encourage you to be more intentional in your everyday life, tasks, relationships, aspirations, and even with yourself.
