On the Wings of My Drafts
This post has been a long time coming. My incredible husband, Mason, purchased my domain name, transitioned my Wordpress blog to this Squarespace site over a year ago. At some point my writing went underground, only to be found in sporadic Instagram posts and more frequently in my Notes app on my phone for my eyes only. It has been almost 3 years since my last blog post Restoring Mondays—and what do ya know, today is Monday.
I met a friend for coffee earlier this evening—decaf, of course. Towards the end of our conversation she asked me a question about what she should do to care for a friend of hers who just suffered a miscarriage as someone who has walked through one and been vocal about our journey. Immediately, I was reminded of a blog a wrote about this exact topic 3 years ago when one of my best friends from college asked me the same thing. In the last 3 years I’ve been asked numerous times, actually, what to do. As helpful as I know this particular blogpost can be with 11 ways to love and support a friend suffering loss, this post has been waiting on the wings of my drafts for 3 years with the last update to it over a year ago, January 2022. Sometimes I write for me, for me and Jesus, and sometimes it’s for others. However, tonight felt like disobedience. This post has long had a place to land, there has been no need for it to be flying aimlessly across the sky. The truth is I’ve been given 4 talents; 2 I’ve invested and 2 I’ve buried (referencing Matthew 25:14-30). Burying and hiding any at all is selfish and not stewarding well what I’ve been given. BUT rather than get weighted down by guilt or self-disappointment, I drove home tonight having a conversation with Jesus that included repentance, receiving His love for me, accepting the reality and potential of this gift of writing, and committing to sharing tonight.
So, while it is long overdue, I very well believe it can be a helpful resource for loving and comforting your people well. I won’t add it to this post I’m writing, but Practical Presence has its own permanent place to be referenced and resourced. This adventure called life we live comes with great joy and great sorrow with a host of greats in between. We may as well walk alongside each other, love like Jesus, see others like Jesus, and not leave each other joy or sorrow alone. Adventure on, my friends.
